Biography

Equally at home as a prop or second rower, Brad Meyers played his junior rugby league with Brothers Rochedale, before being signed by the Brisbane Broncos.

Meyers played for affiliate clubs, Brothers and Toowoomba before making his NRL debut in 2000. He played played 12 top grade games that year, but missed the 14-6 grand final victory over Sydney Roosters because of stress fractures to both feet.

Meyers suspended his carpentry apprenticeship to become a fulltime footballer in 2001, with Broncos' chief executive, Shane Edwards describing him and Dane Carlaw as "the cornerstones of the future".

Meyers earned a State of Origin debut with the Maroons in Game I, 2001, playing all three games in the series win. In the decider at Brisbane's ANZ Stadium, he popped a wonderful off-load to set-up a long range try for Chris Walker. Meyers was chosen for the mid-season Test against the Kiwis and capped off a huge year with selection for the Kangaroo tour of England, where he played two of the three Tests.

Meyers also played a Test against Papua New Guinea. In 2005, after 103 NRL appearances for the Broncos, Meyers signed a two-year deal with the Bradford Bulls in English Super League, playing second row in Bradford's win over Leeds in the 2005 grand final at Old Trafford.

To play as many games as Brad did and achieve as much as he did is a tribute to him.

Wayne Bennett Former Maroons coach

Meyers returned to the NRL as a foundation player with Gold Coast Titans in 2007 and played 75 games for the club over the next five seasons, before announcing his retirement. Meyers played a total of 177 NRL games.

With his carpentry and business background, he has worked as a construction project manager.
