Biography

Electrifying centre Brett French is a member of a proud Maroons club – one of the few Queenslanders to have a sibling who is also a Maroon.

Brett beat older brother, Ian to the punch, debuting for Queensland at Origin level in 1984, 12 months before Ian.

The two brothers went to Iona College at Lindum, and then to Wynnum North High.

Brett toured England with Queensland in 1983, and played against New Zealand at Lang Park in 1984.

Brett French has marked himself as a Test player of the future.

John Lang FOG #12 after French's 1984 season where he made his Queensland Origin debut

He scored the game breaking try in Wynnum Manly's 17-3 win over Souths in the 1982 Brisbane grand final, crossing with eight minutes left, to give the Seagulls a 12-3 lead.

Brett and Ian played in Wynnum's 1984 grand final win over Souths, and the brothers were team mates in the 10-8 loss to Souths in 1985.

After an off-season stint with English club, St Helens (where he played against the touring Kiwis) Brett joined North Sydney, and missed out on the Seagulls' 14-6 win over Brothers in the 1986 Brisbane grand final, with Ian playing in the second row.

Brett had four seasons with the Bears, returning to Origin duty in 1988 after a four-year absence.

He finished his playing career with Gold Coast Seagulls at Tweed Heads.
