Biography

Edrick Lee is a talented all-round athlete who represented Australia in touch football and was part of the Brisbane Bullets NBL development squad.

At 196cm, he is one of the tallest players to represent Queensland. Lee played junior league with Easts Mount Gravatt in Brisbane, in the second row, and in the centres. His hero was Broncos and Queensland State of Origin winger, Wendell Sailor. Lee was recruited by Souths Logan Magpies, and played under 20s for the club, before joining NRL affiliate, the Canberra Raiders in 2011.

Lee played centre for Queensland in the inaugural under 20s State of Origin match in 2012, scoring two tries in the 18-14 loss.

Lee made his NRL debut in Round 12, 2012, and finished the season with seven top grade appearances and six tries. He went on to play a further 66 games for the Raiders, before signing with Cronulla in 2017. After two seasons with the Sharks, he moved to the Newcastle Knights.

To do it for our state, in front of family and friends, in front of a home crowd, there is no bigger occasion.

Edrick Lee

In 2020, Lee was selected in a 27-man Maroons' squad and made his Origin debut on the wing in the Game III decider in Brisbane, alongside his cousin, Brenko Lee. With the scored locked at 6-6, Edrick scored a try from a Cameron Munster cross-kick, giving the Maroons a 12-6 halftime lead. Queensland went on to win 20-14.

Lee heeded the advice of Maroons' assistant coach, Neil Henry, who told him to back himself, and to run more directly, and his strong running gained valuable metres for his side.

A Torres Strait Islander, Lee was brought up in that culture, and enjoyed traditional dancing as a youngster. He represented the Indigenous All Stars in 2016, describing it as one of the best experiences of his life, especially as he had family members come down to Brisbane, from the Islands, to watch the match.

Lee missed the 2021 season because of chronic foot injuries, but made his return to football this year. At the start of the 2022 season, he had played 116 NRL matches and scored 59 tries, with one goal thrown in for good measure.
