Biography

A favourite son of Innisfail, Kerry Boustead made a major impact on the representative scene by becoming (at the time) the youngest Australian male representative, at the tender age of 18 years and 316 days, in 1978.

Boustead came from a sporting family, with his brother, Ian representing Queensland in the pre-Origin era.

Kerry played three games for Queensland in 1978, before moving to Sydney, from where he was picked for New South Wales six times.

He left an indelible mark on the game, being named in the NRL Team of the Decade for the 1970s, and the 1980s.

Boustead was a crucial member of Queensland’s early Origin domination, and scored Origin’s first ever try.  'Bowie' was never afraid to put his relatively small frame on the line, in defence, and the big stepping winger won fans wherever he played, in North Queensland; Sydney (Easts, Manly and Norths) and England (Hull Kingston Rovers).

People would say. 'Please...can you just win one game?' You could see what it meant  to them (to beat NSW).

Kerry Boustead FOG #3

He played 25 Tests for Australia between 1978 and 1984, and was a member of the 1978 and 1982 Kangaroo touring teams to Britain and France.

Boustead was inaugural chief executive of the North Queensland Cowboys.
