Biography

Scott Prince was earmarked as the long-term successor to Allan Langer at the Broncos, and perhaps in the Queensland side, but injuries derailed his early ambitions.

Hugely talented, the Mount Isa 'Town' junior is a nephew of the Daisy brothers, Vern and Frank, who are legends of Foley Shield football in North Queensland. Prince went to Townsville's Ignatius Park College, and was signed by the North Queensland Cowboys, making his NRL debut in 1998, under the coaching of Tim Sheens.

Prince played 53 NRL games for the club over the next three seasons, before signing with the Broncos. He was cursed by injury at Brisbane, the most serious setback a badly broken leg in a match against Canterbury-Bankstown in 2001. Prince remained the true professional, despite his woes, and was named Broncos Club Man of the Year in 2002 and '03. He signed with Wests Tigers in 2004, reuniting with coach, Tim Sheens.

Prince made his Origin debut that year, playing all three games at halfback. In 2005 he led the Tigers to NRL premiership glory, with a 30-16 win over his former club, the Cowboys in the Grand Final, with Prince claiming the Clive Churchill Medal as Player of the Match, as well as being named Dally M captain of the Year.

Prince made his Test debut on the Kangaroos' 2005 Tri-Nations tour of Europe, playing against Great Britain and France, and returned to National duty in the 2008 World Cup, playing Tests against England and Papua New Guinea. In 2007, Prince returned to Queensland, signing with the newly formed Gold Coast Titans. After excellent form with the Titans, he was again chosen for Origin, after Darren Lockyer was unavailable through injury.

As a result, Johnathan Thurston moved from halfback to five eighth, with Prince wearing the number 7. After 124 NRL appearances for the Titans, Prince returned to the Broncos, where he played a further 22 NRL games, before announcing his retirement from elite level football, at the end of the 2013 season. He played for the Indigenous All Stars in 2010, '11 and 13 and was named halfback in the all-time Queensland Indigenous side, with Johnathan Thurston at five eighth.

Prince finished his glittering career having played 300 NRL games; Four Tests for Australia and five Origins for Queensland. He is the highest point scorer in Gold Coast Titans' history (719), and also holds individual records for most points in a match (20) and most points in a season for the club (182). He made a playing comeback with Fortitude Valley Diehards in the Brisbane Rugby League in 2020, showing he still had what it takes, when he landed eight goals from eight shots in one match. He also coached the club's women's side.

Prince has extensive experience in the media, and works for the Broncos Indigenous Program, as well as being a Brand Ambassador for Deadly Choices.
