The Caboolture Snakes have claimed a golden opportunity to climb into the top four in round 13 of the Caloundra RSL A Grade Cup at the weekend.

Until Sunday, Caboolture had been locked in a fierce battle with Maroochydore to see who could claim fourth spot.

But the Snakes put Gympie to the sword on their home ground on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Devils 56-10 in a 10-try rout.

On Saturday night, Maroochydore pushed Kawana closer than many would have expected given the Dolphins dominant form, but eventually fell to the ladder leaders 12-8.

The result means the Snakes now move up to third spot on points differential, while Kawana and Bribie sit in outright first and second respectively.

The Nambour Crushers also kept their slim finals chances alive, defeating the Caloundra Sharks at home on Saturday night 26-20.

Bribie Island did not have to take the park to get the points on Saturday, with Noosa forfeiting across all three grades.
