Yarrabah displayed all of their attacking prowess by outscoring Mareeba 50-40 in an exciting Bendigo Bank Cairns District Rugby League A Grade Elimination Final clash at Barlow Park on Sunday.

The in-form Seahawks, who have now won nine of their last 10 games, turned on the razzle-dazzle in a high-scoring affair which saw 15 tries scored.

Led superbly around the park by Gold Medal nominee Charles Murgha, Yarrabah will now face reigning premiers Brothers in the second week of the finals this Sunday.

Seahawks coach Vincent Schreiber said that he was confident his team could win the game, even when they were behind 16-6 midway through the first half.

We were down by a try or two, but I noticed their defence was tiring out, so we started to do short scoots from the play the ball through the ruck area, and that really worked for us, said Schreiber.

Their big fellas started to get really tired, especially during the second half, and the points came from there.

This win means so much to our community. Everywhere you walk at the moment, people are congratulating us and wishing us luck.

Its really motivating the boys to do well, and once theyre motivated, theyre pretty unstoppable.

The way weve been playing over the last couple of months has provided a big boost to our community.

Oswald Fourmile and Fenton Murgha both scored doubles for the Seahawks, while Bert Harris was superb with the boot, kicking nine goals.

Schreiber also complimented Charles Murgha for his outstanding season, culminating in his Gold Medal nomination as one the competitions top 10 players in 2013.

Charles ticks all the boxes and hes definitely up there with the best, said Schreiber.

Hes playing out of his skin at the moment, leading the troops around, and deserves to be rewarded for everything hes doing.

Southern Suburbs delivered a hugely impressive performance as they secured a resounding 38-14 win over Brothers.

Suburbs victory was mainly down to a dominant first-half display, which gave the Gordonvale club a 20-0 lead after just 29 minutes against a shell-shocked Brothers side.

Centre Rickki Sutherland was superb with a two-try performance before being carried off late on with a knee injury.

Brothers cause was not helped when playmaker Clifford Beetham was taken to hospital early in the second stanza with a head injury.

Suburbs will now face Kangaroos in their major semi-final this weekend, with Roos having won their previous encounter just two weeks ago in a match which decided the minor premiership.
