FROM 2014, the Queensland Secondary Schools Country Cup Carnival will be played at the Maroochydore Junior Rugby League Club.
The decision to move to Maroochydore was made after the previous host was approached by another organisation to run a week-long carnival during the first week of the winter vacation. We could not be guaranteed the grounds, so a shift was necessary.
Maroochydore JRLC are keen to support the Country Cup Carnival and to see it develop. Their support is greatly appreciated.
The Sunshine Coast destination also cuts four hours travel time for many of the teams which travel by bus.
Mackay, North Rockhampton and Mt Morgan have expressed interest in returning to the competition next year so there is a good chance that we will reach the magic number of 16 teams.
About the Country Cup Carnival:
The Country Cup Carnival
The Country Cup Carnival was established in 2007 with sponsorship from the Gold Coast Titans. In 2009, ARL Development and the Brisbane Broncos became carnival sponsors. NRL Development followed on from ARLD in 2013.
Though primarily intended for schools from regional and country areas, the carnival is open to any state high school in Queensland. It is not intended for schools of excellence or academy schools which are already well catered for by elite competitions.
The carnival is an Open grade competition for senior students (Under 18 by QSSSA rules).
