Classy Melbourne Storm centre and Emerging Origin squad member Will Chambers has scorched plenty of defenders in his time and now it seems he’s perfected the art of giving a camera crew the slip.

While chatting to QRL TV during last week’s QAS Emerging Origin camp, Will was asked about Wayne Bennett.

“I’m late, I’ve got to go,” Will said before dashing away, leaving flatfooted reporter Frank Barrett and camera man Bill Scurfield in his wake.

To set the record straight, Will wasn’t dodging the question … and he certainly wasn’t showing any disrespect.

Actually he wasn’t even late, but he knows the culture and expectations required when you’re in camp, along with the consequences of being late.

That wasn’t going to happen.

Will saw the team was heading towards the bus for training, and like the true professional he is, didn’t want to be late for the important field session.

On a more serious note, Will said he was thrilled to be involved in the QAS Emerging Origin program.

“I’m going to learn a bit more about the (Maroons) side now, which I got to see a bit of throughout the year (as 19th man in Game 3),” he said.

“I’m excited to be a part of it. It’s obviously a vital stage to get to that next level.”
