Camp Maroon is headed for the Gold Coast this year, with the Queensland Rugby League today confirming the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort as the XXXX Maroons’ base for the 2014 Origin series.
The announcement signals a “fresh approach” for the Maroons in their quest for continued success in the demanding Origin arena.
“The time was right for Maroons coach Mal Meninga and the Queensland Rugby League to adopt a change of scenery,” QRL chief executive officer Robert Moore said today.
“We’ve been discussing options to freshen up Camp Maroon for a while now and we’re pleased to be able to announce the move to the Gold Coast’s Sanctuary Cove today.
“The resort’s facilities cater for the team’s needs and moving forward, we’re eager to formalise a new commercial partnership with Sanctuary Cove and the Gold Coast City Council.”
Moore said the Maroons left Coolum with fond memories.
“We’ve had some great times on the Sunshine Coast in recent years,” he said.
“It was a great launching pad for a number of series victories with mutually beneficial outcomes for everyone involved.
“We’re very proud of the way the Maroons engaged with the rugby league-loving people of the Sunshine Coast.
“The Maroons represent the whole state and there will be numerous opportunities for fans to interact and watch their favourite team throughout the year, including the annual Fan Day in Longreach.”
