After the cancellation of trial matches on March 21-22 due to heavy rain it was great to see some footy action again.

The final round of trial matches saw clubs from Cairns District head to various grounds across the Tablelands to take on clubs from Eacham Junior Rugby League competition. It was hot and humid up on the tablelands, but the kids loved being back out on the paddock.

The weekend also saw all the U14's from around the district playing in Atherton under the watchful eye of Northern Pride Academy selectors. The academy is a great initiative of the Cairns based Intrust Super Cup's 2013 minor premiers that exposes squad members to all aspects of high performance training both on the field and off the field. The squad will be announced in May along with all the other squad from U12 to U20.

Over the weekend many of CDJRL's U12 players (boys and girls) played in the Peninsula Primary School Rugby League trials down at Billy Slater Oval, Innisfail. The two day carnival is the platform for selection into the Possibles and Probables for the Peninsula team that will head to Goondiwindi for the State Championships over the June/July school holidays. The District has some great young players in the age group and we wish them all luck!

Very little rugby league is being held in the district over the Month of April. Most clubs will continue on with training in preparation for the 2014 season at the start of May. The Annual Nate Myles Cup will also be held over the school holidays for our U13's.

The Cup is in its second year and will be held at Southern Suburbs Junior Rugby League at Gordonvale, where the Titans co-captain played junior league. Looking forward to seeing some great football during the carnival.
