The Burdekin Roosters have celebrated the 100 year anniversary of the Townsville and District Rugby League competition with an emphatic 38‒26 demolition of the Centrals Tigers.

Roosters flyer and man of the match Tremone Power scored a hat trick on his way to dismantling the Tigers defence with some powerful running and lightning footwork.

It was the Roosters second win of the season and followed up their last start 28-all draw heroics against defending premiers the Herbert River Crushers.

The Roosters held the ascendancy early in the match with Power crossing for his first try early, and never relinquished their domination going into halftime with a 16‒4 lead.

However, the Tigers were not done yet and on the back of a positive penalty count in the second half showed tremendous resilience to stage a gutsy comeback however the lead was just too great and the Roosters held on for a morale boosting victory.

It was an impressive win against the in-form team of the competition in the Tigers who were bolstered by the return of former North Queensland Cowboys player George Gatis playing his first game in the TDRL competition since 2011 as well as the return from off season shoulder surgery of Francis Winterstein, younger brother of North Queensland Cowboy Antonio who was strong in his return game.

The 12 point win now gives the Roosters a springboard from which to launch their 2014 campaign.
