IT was a beautiful sunny day on Saturday, May 24 – a great setting for the Valleys Roosters Junior Rugby League to face off against Pittsworth. The teams played on both fields for most of the morning, then just on the main field for the afternoon.

A great crowd accumulated over the day and as the wind picked up so did the line for the hot drinks at the canteen. Mothers of all ages groups were getting around selling tickets for the chance to win Game 1 Origin Tickets.

The club has been extremely successful this year obtaining a major sponsor from Dolley Concreting as the training shirt sponsor; on top of that Valleys have signed more than 260 players for the 2014 season.

With good numbers in every age group and a great support team of coaches and trainers this season is looking positive for some great outcomes and a lot of fun.

President’s Cup is coming up next week and the Under 13/14 Development Cup team is the only team from Valleys to qualify. A very deserving team of very talented boys hoping for a great result.

Last week a player profile was written on star player, Travis Turnbull; President Josh Allen commented that, “Travis is a great credit to himself. It is no fluke he is successful. He works very hard at his game. He loves to play!”

Allen not only is president of Valleys but also trains the Under 14’s side, that played a fantastic game against Pittsworth on Saturday; finishing with the win.

Allen said, “The longer the year has gone the better they are getting which is very exciting. The side we played made very little mistakes so to get the win was excellent.”

Valleys princess this year is Brie Carrington who has a younger brother, Liam in the Under 14’s. She is alongside Under 16’s Club Captain Lachy Stephson working together with the club and each other.

Brie and Lachy have been doing raffles, barbecues, trivia nights and beer and prawn nights to work towards fundraising.

With such a well-knit club, Allen has nothing but pride when he walks through the gates of the Valleys grounds.

In each game, each player work their hardest to do the club proud and it is players like Travis Turnbull that really show he supportive Valleys is.
