Toowoomba Junior Profile: Travis Turnbull
FROM Newtown Junior Rugby League to Valleys; and soon to be a Parramatta Eels rising star, Travis Turnbull is a dedicated young rugby league player with every intention of hitting the big leagues. Here, he opens up about his inspirations, aspirations and goals.
The captain of the Under 15 Valleys Side, Travis has made several representative teams since he was eligible from the age of 11; ranging from Queensland under age Maroons side, Darling Downs and Mustangs.
Even though this season hasn’t been his team’s best with up to eight players missing from recent games due to Darling Downs commitments, they are still sitting on a hopefully 4th on the ladder in the TJRL.
Travis mentioned that to get to a comfortable position in a football career – you needed to have a great support team of coaches, agents, family and friends.
“Sticking to your footy, training really hard and listening to your coach, they know what they are doing after all,” he said.
A successful Mustangs carnival in 2013 resulted in Travis being scouted by Peter Mullen to sign a two-year contract with National Rugby League team, Parramatta Eels; which commenced in January 2014.
He will continue this two-year contract through traveling to Parramatta in holidays of his school year to train and play three games each time. Travis is currently sponsored by X-Blade.
Travis’ name is one spoken highly of on the football front in Toowoomba Junior Rugby League and it will be a name to look out for in the future.
He has the motivation of a more experienced player and is surrounded by inspiration and positive commentary. Travis is on the road to success with a bus full of family and friends.
