Maroons fullback Billy Slater at training today.

Queensland has today confirmed Billy Slater will take his place at fullback for the XXXX Maroons in Wednesday night’s second Holden State of Origin match at ANZ Stadium.

The news comes as a welcome boost for the Maroons as Daly Cherry-Evans and Greg Inglis continue to race the clock.

Will Chambers will play for the Melbourne Storm against the Gold Coast Titans tonight and will re-join the Maroons squad in Sydney tomorrow, while Broncos halfback Ben Hunt will continue to prepare and train with the squad as he has done all week.

Queensland coach Mal Meninga has not set a deadline and will give the players up until kick off to prove their fitness.

Meninga will speak to the media tomorrow morning (10.30am) at Brighton before putting the team through its final paces at the captain’s run at ANZ Stadium (early vision only for media).
