The Centrals Tigers have snapped a four game losing streak downing the Norths Devils 28-20 last Friday night in the Townsville District Rugby League.
It was the Devils who started the better of the two sides with both teams giving up a lot of ball through silly errors and poor penalties.
The Devils had the momentum going into the break leading by eight. However time in possession began to equal out early in the second half with a strong kicking game allowing the Tigers to get back into the match as a result of back to back sets.
From there, the Tigers gained the ascendancy and overpowered the Devils defence through simple play with strong charges from the forwards and deft kicking to the corners allowing them to complete their sets.
Luck was against the Devils with both teams crossing for five tries a piece however it was the boot of Tigers goal kicker Andrew Barnes which proved the difference as he was able to kick four of his conversions while the Devils were unable to convert any of their tries with the majority coming from the sideline.
Tigers winger Francis Winterstein crossed for a double.
It was the Devils fifth loss in a row which sees them entrenched in the bottom half of the table, while the win has kept the Tigers finals chances alive sneaking into fourth spot just ahead of the University Saints who gained much needed competition points through the bye.
