The Mundubbera Tigers are this year’s Central Burnett premiers after beating the Gayndah Gladiators in a thrilling grand final at Martin Love Oval.

At the start of the season, both the Tigers and Gladiators were considered by many as outsiders for a grand final berth.

Theodore and Monto were favourites at the start of the year, but both were knocked out of the competition by the giant-killing Gladiators.

The last time Mundubbera and Gayndah met in a grand final was 31 years ago, back in 1983 in Mundubbera. That game went into two lots of extra time before the Gladiators got up 18-17 in the dying stages to win the match.

Last weekend’s premiership decider was tight as well, with Mundubbera eventually getting the win 29-26 in front of their home supporters.

Considering the inclement weather conditions, a great crowd turned out to witness an excellent game of rugby league, with typical country hospitality and friendship.

Player of the Central Burnett grand final was Jaybin Pearce, the captain and hooker for the Gayndah Gladiators. Jaybin is the grandson of the late great Bunny Pearce.
