The Toowoomba Rugby League junior grand finals held recently at Clive Berghofer Stadium with some great games played across the age groups.

Unfortunately, the Under 13 report was missing from the final QRL report – catch up on the news from the golden point thriller below:

Under 13

Souths Toowoomba

What a thrilling and exciting finish to end the season in the Under 13 grand final on Saturday at the Clive Berghofer Stadium. In the first half Dalby really controlled the game to lead 12-0 at half time and their defensive line speed was first class which didn't allow the young Tigers to play to their game plan. After half time Dalby extended their lead to 16-0 and looked like going on to win the grand final. But the Souths boys as they did two weeks ago in the major semi-final against Highfields they started to control the ball better, building pressure with their kicking game and got on a roll to score two tries to bring them back into the game at 16-10. The young Tigers then displayed brilliant and courageous defence with Dalby attacking right on their try line for at least 8-10 sets with the Souths boys turning the ball over and giving away penalties. With time running out in the grand final and with the game going end to end, Connor Williams scored a great try off an inside pass just before the full time siren. Jordan Lipp then converted the try with a good kick under pressure to level up the scores at 16-16 and send the game into golden point extra time. Early in the extra time period, unfortunately one of the Dalby players was badly injured and the game was halted for a length of time. We wish him a speedy recovery as he had a great game until injured for the Dalby side. On resumption, the Souths boys started to use their attack shape better and get to the kicks and right near the end of the first period of 10 minutes extra time nearly pulled the game out of the fire, but the pass went to ground. Early in the second period of extra time, Souths kicked long and forced a repeat set and on the next set Jordan Lipp went the short side and with a great pass put Nick Kuhnemann over in the corner to win the grand final for the Souths boys. This was a case of deja vu as Jordan put Nick over for the winner in the thrilling golden point game against Highfields in the Major Semi 2 weeks before. What a game and we congratulate Dalby on their performance and the way they played the game in the right spirit. Well done to both teams for playing a game that won't be forgotten for a long time and congratulations to the young Tigers on winning their second grand final in a row with a very good courageous team effort.
