Brothers have capped off a consistent and memorable season with an emphatic 22-8 victory over the Burdekin Roosters in the TDRL Grand Final at the Townsville Sports Reserve on Sunday afternoon.
Getting out to an early 10 point lead thanks to tries to Leo Faaugutu and Nathan Norford, Brothers looked in control early however a reply four pointer from Rooster Ben Cavanagh set the scene for a bruising first half.
Brothers crossed again late to take a commanding lead into the break however, a try to Karmon Power early in the second half led a Burdekin resurgence.
However, the Brothers defence stood up and gritted their way to victory. The relief was evident after having victory snatched away in last years decider.
It was a particularly special day for retiring Brothers stalwart and co-captain Roy Baira after receiving the fairy tale send off he was chasing. Baira has had a great career with Brothers as well as a stint with the Mackay Cutters in the Intrust Super Cup.
