Ipswich Jets turned on the points when they needed it at the weekend, notching a 32-22 victory over Redcliffe on Saturday.

The Jets are now five-from-five to start the season and sit atop the BRL ladder.

“The boys have ripped in every week… everyone toughed it out, there were a few injuries but we kept going,” Ipswich five-eighth Haydan Lipp said.

“We’re confident heading into each week and we’ll just keep doing what we’re doing… there’s a good vibe around the club.”

While Redcliffe never lost touch with Ipswich on the scoreboard, the result never really seemed in doubt during the second half.

The Dolphins skipped to an early 12-6 lead but Ipswich kicked away with two straight tries at the 50th minute mark.

Elusive fullback Jordan Tighe claimed crossed twice including an agile solo effort from a scum win.

Lipp’s short kicking game produced tries, while his long boot found plenty of territory.

The competition’s leading points scorer said it was a focus under the guidance of Jets’ Intrust Super Cup coach and former Brisbane Broncos playmaker Ben Walker.

“I’ve been trying to work on my kicking game, especially with Ben… it helps to be able to get us out of trouble when we’re tired,” Lipp said.

“Aside from that, during the week we play a lot of touch footy related games, keeping the ball alive but obviously without the physical pressure.

“It seems to work for us.”

In other games, Valleys picked up their first win of the season over Normanby while a late Brent Warr field goal sealed the points for Easts against West Brisbane.

Logan Brothers held off Gaters at Civic Park and Wynnum Manly Redland City skipper Mitchell Moore got a double in his side’s 38-22 win over Carina.
