Northern Pride Head Coach Joe O’Callaghan is urging those involved with rugby league in Far North Queensland to apply to join and work in the Pride’s much-heralded 2015-16 Academy Program.

Expressions of interest to join the program close on Wednesday 27 May, with coaching, medical, training, strength and conditioning, and management and welfare staff positions all available from Under 12s to Under 17s.

An exciting development this year is the formation of Pride’s inaugural Under 14 to Under 16 Girls High Performance squad, with a coach being sought for that team.

Also, due to the work demands required for the positions of Cyril Connell Cup Head Coach, Mal Meninga Cup Joint Head Coach, Academy Head FAO and Academy Head Strength and Conditioner, these positions will come with attached honouriam packages.

O’Callaghan, who saw the Pride Under 16s become state champions in 2014, said he encouraged anyone interested to apply to work in the Academy, which will see more than 240 youngsters part of the program.

“It’s an absolute thrill to work with the region’s best young rugby league talent, and be part of their footballing journey,” said O’Callaghan.

“I urge anyone with a passion for rugby league in our region to put their name forward and help these young boys and girls maximise their potential.

“The rewards are amazing, and you get to play your part in the wonderful culture that exists at the Club.”

O’Callaghan said it was an exciting time to get involved with the Club’s expanded Academy program.

“Due to the expansion in our program, there is a dramatic increase in staff positions in multiple departments including coaching, strength and conditioning, trainers, management / welfare and medical,” he said.

“We also believe our program now has in place a systematic staff set up which allows for not just great experience in your chosen field but also a clear vision of progression to higher level.

“During the expression of interest period this year, we hope to see numerous applications coming in from members of clubs and areas all over the region.”
