Former Queensland captain Adrian Lam delivered a rousing pre-match address to the Maroons over dinner at the team’s Parramatta hotel last night.

Holding the Origin jersey he wore 20 years ago, Lam spoke about the special bond shared by the 1995 Queenslanders, who stunned NSW 3-0 in an unforgettable Maroons clean sweep.

Lam revealed he was a bundle of nerves before his Origin debut, losing three kilograms in the hours leading into Game 1.

But there were no sign of nerves last night as the veteran of 14 Origin matches spoke assertively about the meaning of Origin and Maroons family.

There were calming words as well, the perfect tonic for Maroons debutants Michael Morgan and Josh McGuire who were presented with their Game 1 jerseys.
