Fans in Kingaroy enjoy last year's Country Week match between Wynnum Manly and Tweed Heads.
Queensland Rugby League has today confirmed the Country Week locations for Round 23 of the Intrust Super Cup.
Now a permanent fixture on the QRL calendar thanks to the support of the Queensland Government, ‘Get in the Game’ Country Week provides a unique opportunity for our teams to engage with local rugby league clubs and regional communities.
This year’s matches will be held in Dalby, Blackall, Bundaberg, Charters Towers, Innisfail and Stanthorpe on the weekend of August 15-16.
Minister for Sport and Racing, Bill Byrne, encouraged regional fans to embrace the occasion.
“The Queensland Government has committed $100,000 over two years for Country Week, which forms part of the Get in the Game initiative aimed to support grassroots sport and recreation,” Minister Byrne said.
“Regional Queensland is the heartland of rugby league and promoting opportunities for our regions to showcase their communities to the rest of the State is so important.
“Events such as Country Week also encourages our kids to get active, while also having fun."
Get in the Game involves four funding programs that provide clubs with better resources, equipment and facilities as well as giving children who might not otherwise be able to afford it, the opportunity to play sport.
Further details, including kick off times and an outline of community activities in each area, will be announced by Minister Byrne and the QRL in coming weeks.
