Eastern Cobras defeated Goodna Eagles 20-16 in the Ipswich Rugby League Boettcher Realty Colts Cup on Saturday.
In an entertaining game both teams showed strong qualities in attack and defence.
In the opening stages of the match the Cobras showed great attacking skill as they gained the early momentum.
After 19 minutes the Cobras had established an 8-0 lead.
The Cobras got back into attacking position but Goodna showed great defence in their own territory.
The game then started to shift momentum to Goodna as the Eagles started to get themselves into good field position.
In the 25th minute Goodna scored a great try to get back within two points, with the score at 8-6.
Three minutes after halftime Goodna scored again with a great backline move and fantastic long cut out pass creating space out wide for the Eagles to score.
With the momentum with Goodna they made the most of it when they scored again in the 53rd minute to get out to a 16-8 lead.
The Cobras were quick to respond though, scoring just minutes later to get back within two points at 16-14.
With three minutes of the match remaining, the Cobras were in great attacking position and they made the most of it to score and get themselves a four-point lead.
The Cobras held onto their four point lead for the remainder of the match and won the game 20-16.
In round nine of the Ipswich Rugby League Mayor Paul Pisasale A-Grade Cup, Goodna defeated West End 36-32, Norths defeated Fassifern 26-20 and Brothers defeated Swifts 29-18.
