The funeral for Sunshine Coast Falcons’ player James Ackerman will be a celebration of his life and sporting achievements spanning his 20 years of playing the game of rugby league that he loved.

Members of the public are invited to attend the funeral service at 11am at the Sunshine Coast Stadium, Nicklin Way, Kawana at 11am on Wednesday 1 July 2015. Children and their families are most welcome.

The Sunshine Coast Stadium is the home ground of the Falcons Rugby League Club and James’ funeral service will be held on the field where he last played on the Sunshine Coast prior to the events at Bishop Park.

The stadium has seating capacity for 2000 people.

A big screen will be set up to play a video tribute from rugby league sporting identities.

Junior rugby league clubs from the Sunshine Coast will also pay their respects with a special tribute at the end of the service.

Members of the public are also invited to attend a wake for James after the funeral service which will be held at the Caloundra R-S-L.

The Ackerman family ask that donations be made to the James Ackerman Family Trust Fund in lieu of flowers to support James’ wife Saraa and two young children Olliver and Millie.

The public are asked to arrive early as large crowds are expected.

People are also advised to park on the eastern side of Nicklin Way as limited parking will be available on Sportsmans Parade. Please ensure you follow directions from traffic personnel and if possible, arrive early to avoid delays.

The Order of Service will be given to media prior to the service on the day. It will also include details of James’ football career.

A separate release with further details regarding media coverage on the day will be issued on Tuesday.

We ask all media to respect the privacy of the Ackerman family in their time of grief.

Thank you.
