The Redcliffe Dolphins did just enough to get over the top of the visiting Norths Devils to claim a 32-20 win at home yesterday.

With the halftime score at 16-10 favouring the Dolphins, both teams still had much work to do to go on to claim the much-coveted two points.

The Dolphins came out of the sheds at halftime pumped and scored back-to-back tries to increase their lead to 22-10.

The Devils also scored once more in the second half, but could not better the determined Dolphins who ran in a number of tries to end the match on a high.

Coach Troy Lindsay said he was happy with the win; but knew the defensive effort from the team would need to improve for this weekend’s upcoming game against the PNG Hunters.

“The defensive effort from the boys was not ideal. We were good for the first 20 minutes and we started to fall apart after that,” Lindsay said.

“We didn’t do what we should have done and we just didn’t stick to our structure.

“We will have to work on that for this weekend because those mistakes against PNG could lead to a cricket score.”

Redcliffe captain Luke Capewell had another great game with two tries and four goals to get his team across.

“Luke has been good all season, he is a player that leads by example. He hasn’t been captain before this year, but has been putting in a solid effort each week,” Lindsay said.

The coach also praised the work of his forwards Tyson Cleal and Jon Green who have had a solid season and have been reliable when needed.

“They have done everything that has been asked of them every week. As a coach what more can you really ask for,” he said.

“They make it count for the team when it is needed and expected of them.

“Tyson has been great this season and he is still young enough to play for Colts which is bonus for us.”

Bobbie Goulding – who has only played a handful of Cup games this season – is another who had a good game for the Phins and posting a try of his own to go with a try assist to help the team towards the win.

“Bobbie still has a few areas he has to work on, mainly defence, but he is still a young player and he will be able to work on those things,” Lindsay said.
