West End Bulldogs defeated Goodna Eagles 36-22 in the Ipswich Rugby League Mayor Paul Pisasale A-Grade Cup on Saturday.

The opening stages of the match showed just how competitive the game would be, as the Bulldogs and Eagles showed high quality early on.

In the 8th minute West End fullback Errol Chapman showed lightning quick pace to score a long-range try to open the scoring, Goodna responded shortly after when Jeff Sefo powered his way over to score for the Eagles levelling the scores at 6-all.

Both sides showed some clever play with good play making resulting in tries for both teams as the score rose to 12-all.

A try each to both teams late in the first-half saw West End go into halftime leading 18-16.

Early in the second-half West End got themselves into good attacking position as they put pressure on Goodna's goal-line defence.

The Bulldogs made the most of their early second-half momentum when in the 53rd minute they scored a stunning long-range try to extend their lead to 24-16.

Just three minutes later, Goodna scored to reduce West End's lead back to two points.

But another fantastic long-range try from West End restored the 8-point margin.

The Bulldogs looked great in attack in the second-half, showing that they are a genuine contender for this year's premiership.

In the final minute of play, West End scored again with some more entertaining play to extend their lead to 36-22 at fulltime.

In the other Ipswich Rugby League Mayor Paul Pisasale A-Grade Cup round 13 games Fassifern defeated Brothers 32-30 and Norths defeated Swifts 28-16.
