The Brisbane Rugby League heavyweights flexed their muscles on the weekend, with top three sides Wynnum Manly Redland City, Ipswich and Redcliffe racking up points.

The Seagulls matched the ill-fated Australian cricket team’s recent first innings with a 60-4 thrashing of Logan Brothers, while the Jets were made to work for their 28-6 win over Gaters on the road.

At Kev McKell Oval the Dolphins rebounded from a loss to the Jets with a physical 52-12 victory over West Brisbane Panthers.

The damage was done in the first half, with the visitors shooting to a 34-4 lead.

Coach Daniel Green said the performance was atonement for a below par showing the previous week.

“We felt like we took a backwards step against Ipswich but we executed our game plan and played with energy, enthusiasm and aggression which is what we trained for,” coach Daniel Green said, adding that everything seemed to fall into place.

“The bounce of the ball went our way all game, the penalty count went our way.

“West Brisbane has a lot of guys out and credit for the way they played the game.”

Redcliffe’s red-headed halves pairing Alex Bishop and Jordan Mitchell are starting to peak at the business end of the season.

Bishop wreaked havoc on the left side in the first half, while Mitchell scored in the second with a weaving solo effort.

He finished with eight goals and a personal tally of 20 points.

The Dolphins have now won five from their past six.

In other results, Brandan Purcell scored four tries for Carina in their 50-22 win over Normanby.

Carina ran away with the match after it was locked at 16-all in the first half.

At Allan Innes Field, Easts skipped to a 26-nil lead before fending off a Valleys Diehards revival to win 52-24.
