The Queensland Rugby League would like to pass on their condolences to the friends and family of John Crane, who passed away following a year-long battle with lung cancer.

Crane – a successful businessman and manager of the QRL’s 1980 Club (a group of prominent businessman and league identities who support the Maroons and QRL) – passed away peacefully on Friday, December 11.

He was also a highly-regarded member of the FOGs, running many of their government-backed programs.

“He was a great bloke, and was so organised he has even planned his own send off,” FOG’s chairman and Queensland Origin selector Gene Miles told APN Media.

Family and friends are invited to honour John in the Broncos Leagues Club, Red Hill, on Thursday, December 17, at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lung Cancer Trust Fund via Craney's Wish: https://www.youcaring.com/john-crane-484838
