The Bowen Summer 10s competition is kicking off next month – and interested teams are encouraged to get their nominations in now.

The annual tournament will be held in Bowen on March 19, and is a great chance for fans to see some senior rugby league in the town.

This will be the fifth year this pre-season competition will be held in the seaside town south of Townsville.

Event convenor BJ Freeman said the competition provided a great opportunity for clubs to give their teams a hit out prior to the season, and to have a bit of fun.

The competition is open to all registered rugby league players, and teams can nominate up to a maximum of 20 players.

Once again, Australia’s best regional hotel the Grandview Hotel has sponsored the event, providing cash prizes for both the winner and the runner up.

There is also a good prize on offer for the winner of the Dash for Cash.  The biggest winner on the day is always a local charity with funds raised supporting their cause, and in 2016; Bowen’s Meals on Wheels is the nominated charity.

In previous years, the Burdekin teams have dominated.  Last year saw the local team the Bowen Bus Boys challenge the Burdekin Buffaloes in the final, but the Buffaloes prevailed, keeping their unbeaten record intact.

Local league enthusiasts will be hoping for a change of fortune for the local lads in 2016.
