The new surroundings of Easts Leagues Club saw the Brisbane Second Division Rugby League usher in their 2016 season on Wednesday night.

One of the largest senior rugby league competitions in the world; this year, the competition will see 62 teams compete across seven grades – however, this season there will not be an Under 20 division.

A majority of the Premier Grade teams have aligned themselves with the BRL A Grade clubs this season, giving players another pathway to higher level football.

There were a number of special guests present on the night – with a mention made of Associate Sponsor AlphaSport who celebrated 25 years of sponsorship with the competition.

The night also served as an acknowledgement of the service of former BSDRL secretary Ian Harvey.

Ian took over as secretary of the League in 2000 and continued in that role until his retirement at the end of the 2015 season.

In partnership with his wife, Denise (both pictured above), Ian kept match records and Player of the Year records meticulously throughout that period, something they will continue to do for the league this year.

Ian and Denise were both awarded Life Membership of the League in 2012.

The Brisbane Second Division Rugby League competition kicks off this weekend and you can also follow their news via their Facebook page – Brisbane Second Division Rugby League.
