The Queensland Rugby League wish to extend its condolences to the family and friends of QRL Life Member Ron Wilkinson.

A former Rockhampton-based director of both the QRL and Australian Rugby League, Wilkinson passed away peacefully last weekend aged 86.

He devoted many years of service to the game in Rockhampton, passionately representing Central Queensland at QRL Board level.

Along with his QRL recognition, Wilkinson was bestowed Life Membership of the Central Division, Rockhampton Rugby League and Rockhampton Leagues Club.

While local rugby league was his passion, he stood alongside some of the greats of the game – including Bob Fulton, Mal Meninga and Laurie Daley – in his role as the Australian manager on the 1994 Kangaroos tour.

Away from rugby league, Wilkinson worked as a butcher.

A devoted family man, he raised three children with wife Shirley and is the very much loved grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Queensland Rugby League Chairman Peter Betros will attend Ron’s funeral in Rockhampton this Thursday, March 24.

The service will be held at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Feez Street, North Rockhampton, from 10am.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Rockhampton Junior Rugby League would be appreciated.
