A Brisbane Rugby League double header will kick start the season on Saturday as part of a blockbuster day at Southpine Sports Complex.

The Gaters home ground is expected to draw a healthy crowd for a six-match card, including the club's BRL season opener against Normanby.

"I know we'll have plenty of support behind the boys on Saturday," A Grade coach Craig Rodgers said.

"We wouldn't be one of the most financially well-off clubs but we've got a great group of coaches and volunteers.

"We're all very tight knit and any success that the club has we all share together."

In the other BRL game, Struddy's Sports victors Redcliffe meet defending premiers Ipswich, followed by the much-anticipatied Intrust Super Cup clash between the same teams.

The Gaters struck an affiliation with the Dolphins, one Rodgers describes as nothing but positive even though the club doesn't field a huge number of dual-contracted players.

"We had Josh Benjamin (on his comeback from injury) last week but it's more about the opportunities that relationship gives us," he said.

"Our junior clubs, including the Crushers, have that pathway to senior footy and now there's that next step to Intrust Super Cup."

Gaters' BRL side shocked many in 2015, going within one game of the grand final.

They won two from four Struddy's Sports pre-season fixtures, and are hoping to build on that form in round one.

After impressing in trials, popular clubman Adam Wickins is poised to start the season at fullback.

"He's still learning but he's one of those types of players that is always in the right spot ... that everyong wants to play with," Rodgers said.

"Even though we conceded 30 points against Logan Brothers last weekend, I've been impressed with our defence."
