The Redcliffe Dolphins overcame a poor opening half and spirited Mackay Cutters side to claim another home win in Round 16.
The Dolphins – who were trailing 24-10 at halftime – put in an almost flawless second half to run over the top of the visiting Cutters.
Forward Anthony Cherrington was involved in much of their attack with his footwork and ability to offload in traffic helping him earn the XXXX man of the match award.
Before the game, fans were predicting a big win to Redcliffe – and things seemed to be going according to plan with big winger Curtis Johnston touching down for the home side within the opening two minutes.
However, the Cutters had other plans and ran in the next four tries to stun the home fans and hold a 24-4 lead.
However, in what proved to be a key play – they allowed the Phins back into the game just before halftime – with Cherrington shrugging off defenders in his charge to the line.
They continued in this form to start the second half posting four unanswered tries to retake the lead; while a 70th minute try to Cutters wingers Blake Atherton kept this interesting as the clock ran down - the damage was already done.
This weekend, the Dolphins will host Herald Cup rivals Wynnum Manly, while the Cutters are at home to the Sunshine Coast.
