It was an era where interchanges were limited to two, water runners were not allowed on the field and there was an unlimited tackle count.

On August 27, the Spotted Dog Tavern, Bundaberg, is hosting a 50-year reunion for the Wide Bay rugby league team that won the state championship in 1966.  The date marks almost 50 years to the day that Wide Bay defeated Ipswich 50-8 at Salter Oval in what was then the Courier-Mail State Championship (Note: the game was played on August 28, 1966).

Players from throughout the region will gather to relive the memories of what was one of the most significant days in Wide Bay rugby league’s history.  They made the final after playing the last 25 minutes of the Country Final (qualifying game for the final) with only 12 men due to injury.

All players and staff, along with wives and partners, are invited to attend and are encouraged to contact Col Reynolds to confirm their attendance.
