The QRL’s South East Queensland Division has announced the draw for its 2017 Under 16 age pre-season competition, which will kick off on Saturday, March 4 at the new Dolphin Oval complex.

This was introduced this season by the Division in place of the previous QRL statewide competition the Cyril Connell Cup.

The competition will assist in the selection of the two SEQ Water Dragons representative teams to participate in the QRL State Junior Carnival at the Sunshine Coast later this year.

Division Chairman Brad Tallon said this new format which was introduced by the Division to provide a player pathway opportunity which is managed by the junior Leagues.

“I applaud the Local Leagues for their support of this new model and also for funding approval to prepare all teams for the challenge,” Tallon said.

“With Brisbane (three teams), Gold Coast (two teams) and Ipswich all involved in the round robin series, I am looking forward to watching these young footballers launch another junior rugby league season.”
