After Round 5 of the Northern Districts Rugby League, the competition remains fairly tight - but one premiership favourite is starting to break away from the pack and make their mark on the competition.

No games were played last weekend due to wet conditions brought on by Cyclone Debbie, however Avondale remain favourites to win back-to-back titles in this year’s premiership contest.

Last season’s grand finalists Gin Gin and new team Northern Force look to be the teams who will most likely challenge the Tigers.

South Kolan have done a great job in recruiting enough players to remain in the competition following uncertainty at the start of the season which is great news for the Sharks.

They and Burnett Heads are believed to be the surprise packets who could come from the pack to be definite threats.

LADDER AFTER ROUND 5: Avondale 8, Northern Force 6, Burnett Heads 4, Gin Gin 4, South Kolan 2

This weekend, Gin Gin will host the Northern Wide Bay trials to select the representative team to compete in the Central Division 47th Battalion carnival in Yeppoon on Saturday, 29 and Sunday, 30 April.

Congratulations to the following players selected in the NDRL Bulldogs side:
