Carney waiting for answers after second NRL meeting

Todd Carney met with the NRL integrity unit on Thursday morning, with his manager admitting the 31-year-old is now waiting for a "tick or cross" from chief executive Todd Greenberg.

Carney held a two-hour meeting at Rugby League Central in Moore Park on Thursday, his second formal correspondence with the governing body in his bid to return to the NRL after leaving the Cronulla Sharks for bringing the game into disrepute back in 2014.

The North Queensland Cowboys are willing to hand the playmaker an NRL lifeline after a few seasons in the English Super League, but Carney is now waiting for the green light from the NRL.

"We met with the NRL and now we'll wait to see what the process will be from here," Carney's manager David Riolo said.

"We met with the integrity unit and I'm assuming they will write a report from our meeting and that will go to Todd. From there we'll either get a tick or a cross."

An NRL spokesman said: "The integrity unit met with Todd Carney today as part of the ongoing process of reviewing his application to be registered."
