South East Queensland Division has announced a 47-member training squad from the recently concluded Under 16 pre-season challenge series.
The pre-season challenge format was introduced last season and proved successful, with a total of 16 SEQ players eventually being selected for the Queensland team.
This group will assemble for training the week commencing June 4, joining the SEQ Under 14s Boys squad as well as the junior girl’s groups (Under 14 and Under 16).
This will be the first step for all players in gaining selection for their respective age group SEQ representative teams to contest the QRL’s State Junior Carnival event.
This year’s carnival will be hosted in Mackay, from July 4-8.
Additional players will be added to this Under 16s squad prior to the start of training, based on their performance at club level and also as they return to playing from injury that forced them out of the pre-season series.
Division selectors and coaching staff will continue to visit Under 16s matches in all three local league competitions to monitor form and fitness of all participating players.
Two final SEQ teams of 19 players each will be named on June 19.
