A historic meeting between the first Women's State of Origin team and the men's Origin side occurred on Monday over lunch at Sanctuary Cove.

With the profile of the women's game growing exponentially in recent years – and now afforded prime-time broadcast status with the Origin fixture on Friday night – the meeting was a reflection of the times.

Respective captains Karina Brown and Greg Inglis were deep in conversation and posed for press cameras to mark the occasion.

Around the room, players from both squads mingled and discussed the looming assignments for their respective Maroons outfits.

And there was a chance for some candid photos as male and female players met their past and present idols from the vaunted interstate series.
