Sutton and Klein get nod to referee Origin II

Referees Gerard Sutton and Ashley Klein have been rewarded for a strong showing in the Holden State of Origin series opener by being retained for game two at ANZ Stadium on Sunday.

Sutton and Klein were widely praised for their performance in Origin I at the MCG, with the free-flowing game proving a great advertisement for the game in Melbourne.

Sutton has now officiated in the past 11 State of Origin matches and his assist referee Klein will take part in his fourth Origin.

"Both referees officiated very well in the opening State of Origin game and it is certainly beneficial to maintain some consistency through the course of the series," Senior Manager Officiating Bernard Sutton said.

Nick Beashel and Brett Suttor will be touch judges, while Steve Chiddy (Senior Review Official) and Ben Galea (Review Official) will operate the NRL Bunker. Ben Cummins is the standby referee and Chris Butler is the standby touch judge.

The group will be the same officiating group from Holden State of Origin I.

The selections were made by the referees appointments committee, which includes Bernard Sutton, Officiating Head Coach Michael Maguire and Assistant Referees Coaches Russell Smith and Steve Carrall.
