Cbus Super Stadium to showcase Women's finale

The 2018 SEQW Division 1 grand final will be played at Cbus Super Stadium and broadcast live on Fox Sports on August 11 as part of the NRL's Women in League Round.

The QRL's South-East Queensland Division, which oversees the Women's competitions in the region, supported the proposal for an early conclusion to its season this year to cater for the new NRL Women's Premiership competition which will kick-off late next month.

This promotion of the Women's game was also extended to include the live coverage of the Division 1 SEQ grand final as a curtain-raiser to the Round 22 Titans home match against the Panthers.

"This is a giant leap for the Women's game in this region," SEQ Chair Brad Tallon said. "(It is) also a testament to the strength of the premiership competition that we have worked hard to develop in the region over the last few years particularly.

"To see this game broadcast to a live audience will not only boost our effort to grow participation, but no doubt will also be a real thrill for the players themselves and their families."

The finals series for the SEQW Division 1 competition starts today (July 28), with the top four teams fighting it out over the next three weeks.

The West Brisbane Panthers will travel to Suzuki Stadium, Langlands Park for their elimination semi-final against Easts Tigers, while three-time defending champions and minor premiers the Burleigh Bears will host Brothers Ipswich at Pizzey Park. The winner of this match will advance straight to the Cbus Super Stadium decider.

Tigers coach Duane Rehua said it would mean "everything" if his club were able to be a part of the grand final in just their second season in the top grade.

"It could be a little bit daunting, playing in a big arena like that compared to what we're used to playing in," Rehua said.

"But I think it will be a great occasion and it's a great step forward for women's rugby league.

"To have a grand final at an NRL venue, before an NRL game; I think it's recognition of what's happening in women's rugby league and I think it will be massive."
