Acknowledging female achievements in sport

Do you know anyone, any group or organisation who goes above and beyond to increase and enhance sport and active recreation opportunities for women and girls in Queensland?

If so, you can nominate them for the Start Playing Stay Playing Excellence Awards. The awards have been established to acknowledge these people, groups or organisations as well as female achievements in the sport and active recreation industry.

Nominations can include any individual, group or organisation from the junior club level to seniors, excluding professional or QAS athletes for athletic achievements and Federal or Queensland Government entities.

You’ll have to be quick though, nominations close on August 6 with the winners to be announced in September / October 2018.

Last year's Innovation Award winner, the RATS Cycling Club, created an event in 2015 to increase women’s participation in mountain biking which is now the largest female only mountain participation event in Australia.

With female participation being one of the fastest growing areas of rugby league; many women, clubs and organisations could be nominated for their achievements or / and work in creating these opportunities for women and girls in Queensland.

The three award categories are: Inclusion, Innovation, and Inspiration.

The winners of each category will receive $1000 to support their initiative or ongoing commitment to getting women and girls active for life.

One of these winners will also receive an overall Minister’s Start Playing Stay Playing Excellence Award and an extra $2000 to their cause.
