Kirwan State High School stamped their presence as the dominant force in North Queensland schoolboy rugby league by claiming a landmark double in the Aaron Payne Cup and Cowboys Challenge last night.

Played at 1300SMILES Stadium before the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys thrilling win over the Brisbane Broncos, Kirwan proved too strong for arch-rivals Ignatius Park in both the Aaron Payne Cup (opens) and Cowboys Challenge (under 15s).

Steven Numambo, Kaelin Kerekere and Jacson Lott scored tries for Kirwan in the 16-10 APC victory, with Zac McMinn and Tomas Chester scoring the four-pointers for Ignatius Park.

"It was a high quality game of rugby league," Cowboys Elite Pathways Coach Aaron Payne said.

"The completion rate from both sides was as high as I can ever remember seeing in a schoolboys game.

"The atmosphere was outstanding as well, the supporters from both schools should be commended.

"Congratulations to Kirwan on winning both games."

Kirwan prevailed 24-20 in a thrilling affair in the under 15s.
