Injured quartet to be assessed

It was gutsy win but there will be a wait to determine the extent of the injuries to come out of Friday night.

Melbourne were left with nobody on the bench during the second half of their win over the Eels at AAMI Park.

Cameron Smith left the field in the 35th minute with a back injury and did not return.

The skipper was later joined in the dressing room by Suliasi Vunivalu (hamstring tightness), Nelson Asofa-Solomona (ankle) and Brandon Smith (knee).

All four players will be assessed over the weekend before a more accurate diagnosis can be given for each of their injuries.

"It is hard to say at the moment," Storm coach Craig Bellamy said.

"Cameron has had spasms in the joints in his back, which he has had before. I don't think it is anything too serious but what serious is, I don't know, especially with backs.

"Brandon and Nelson are going to be out for a fair chunk of time I think.

"Suli felt his hamstring, it wasn't too bad but we weren't prepared to put him out there for the second half. Our physio basically said it will get worse and if he tears it, that is a six-week injury. He is going to miss a week or two but it won't be long term like the other two."

Despite the injuries the coach expressed his pride in his team's ability to overcome the odds and hold on for a crucial win.

"I was wrapt, I am really proud of the effort they put in," Bellamy said.

"It was not a great night for us injury wise. We've got a couple that are going to miss a fair chunk of time, that is not great for us at this time of the year but I couldn't have been prouder of what they put out there tonight."
