With South East Queensland Division’s annual Queensland Pacific Island Cultural Carnival only a few weeks away; players from the nations involved are getting ready to put on their best performances for the tournament.
Arguably one of the largest Pasifika rugby league carnivals in the country, the Queensland Rugby League supported event will take place in late October.

Training for the QLD PNG Rugby League Under 14 Boys, Under 16 Boys, Under 18 Boys and Women’s Open squads kicked off last night (Wednesday, September 5) at 39 Boundary Road, Bill Norris Oval, Beenleigh at 6.45pm.
Training sessions will continue on Wednesday nights for these squads in the lead-up to the carnival.
The squads have been created following a nomination process; but the training sessions will assess which players will go on to be selected in the teams for the QPICC tournament.
The Queensland PNG Rugby League Open Men’s for the carnival will be selected following the conclusion of the organisation’s Kokomos Nines carnival which will take place on Saturday, September 22, also at Beenleigh’s Bill Norris Oval.
As well as a number of Brisbane-based teams competing, organisers are also hoping to announce the registration of some PNG-based teams who will make the trip to Australia to take part. More details on this carnival will also be on the QRL website shortly.
