Reward for best trainers as Broncos turn up heat

Sean O'Sullivan and Cory Paix haven't played for the Broncos yet but both were wearing a Brisbane jersey at training this week as part of an initiative introduced by new coach Anthony Seibold.

The initiative rewards the club's best trainers for the week with the privilege of wearing the jersey. As well as being a sign of commitment, the prized jerseys inspires teammates to up the ante.

Noted high-intensity trainer Payne Haas has also been seen in the jersey as Seibold turns up the heat at training to encourage excellence and put his squad on notice that with a new coach comes a clean slate in the race to make the 17 for the round one clash with Melbourne.

Former Rooster O'Sullivan has been a standout trainer while Paix, who is highly rated by Broncos legend Darren Lockyer, is a young half who has consistently made Queensland junior representative sides.

The new reward system has already lit a fire in new recruit Shaun Fensom.

"You want to be wearing that jersey at training because that means you have put in the hard work. It is good motivation for the whole side," Fensom said.

"They are our best trainers of the week. Their numbers are the highest out of the whole team. Their efforts-on-efforts and their repeat efforts are up above everyone else so they get to train in the Broncos jersey for that week because they have earned it."

Broncos half Kodi Nikorima has just returned to training after representing New Zealand in October and November and is already inspired to get rewarded by the new coach.

"I haven't worn the jersey yet but hopefully before the pre-season ends you see me in it," he said.

"Seibs has brought that in and it is rewarding those players who have trained really hard. To be one out of 30 or 40 players is a good achievement.

"I've known Sean [O'Sullivan] for a couple of years now. He is a quality player and no doubt we will see him in a Broncos jersey this year."

Nikorima has also embraced the pumping music that the players now train to, another of Seibold's innovations.

"I really like that especially when we are out there doing it tough," Nikorima said.

"When we are out their stuffed and hear the music pumping it gets you going so hopefully he keeps that on throughout the season. It is a lot of fun."
