Champions streak ends in first round of Ipswich A Grade

The Rugby League Ipswich A Grade Competition got underway last weekend, with Goodna Eagles ending the 17-game winning streak of the defending champion Fassifern Bombers.

The Bombers had not suffered defeat since Round 3 last season en route to a big win in the 2018 grand final, but it was the Eagles who made the biggest statement of the opening round with a 48-12 win.

Raymond Harrison and Sione Piutau both scored doubles in the dominant nine tries to two victory that sees the Eagles take the early competition lead.

Elsewhere in Round 1 action, Brothers Ipswich ran out 28-10 winners over West End Bulldogs and the Swifts Bluebirds defeated Redbank Plains Bears 40-22 with Harold Mosby crossing for a hat-trick. Northern Suburbs Ipswich Tigers had the bye.

Round 2 will feature Brothers Ipswich against the Tigers, Redbank Plains Bears against West End Bulldogs and Goodna Eagles against the Bluebirds with the Bombers having the bye.
