Central Junior Carnival Day 1 Results

The wet conditions didn’t deter a fantastic opening day to this year’s Central Junior Carnival in Bundaberg yesterday.

Heading into Day 2 at Salter Oval today, most fixtures will determine who will be crowned regional champions in each age division.

In the Under 13 Boys Phil Shield Shield, the Sunshine Coast Falcons look set to take this title home, provided they defeat the Wide Bay Bulls today. Should the Bulls upset the Falcons, the Central Queensland Capras could be an outside chance to claim victory should they defeat the Mustangs.

Today's Under 14 Boys game between the Capras and Western Mustangs will determine the winner of the Rex Zeeman Shield. If the match is the draw, the Mustangs will get over the line through for and against.

Much like their Under 14 counterparts, it will also be the match between CQ and the Mustangs in the Under 14 Girls to determine who lifts the Sandra Currie Shield. The Mustangs are ahead by two points and have the superior for and against, so all six points are needed for the Capras to claim the title.

In the Under 16 Boys Darren Lockyer Shield, the Mustangs displayed a masterclass in their only game yesterday and face the red-hot Capras first up this morning. Should they get the win over CQ, all they’ll need to do is win one half against the Falcons in the final game today; however, if the Capras defeat the Mustangs, they’ll claim this year’s title regardless of the final fixture.

All eyes will be on the game between the Capras and Mustangs to all but decide the Under 16 Girls Stephanie Hancock Shield. If CQ win all six available points, the Mustangs’ matchup against the Falcons will be null and void results-wise; however, if the Capras only claim four out of those six points, it will be an all-important finish between Western and Sunshine Coast to determine this year’s titleholder.
