Central Region heavyweights face off for youth titles

Two mouth-watering deciders between the competition heavyweights are set to light up Murgon today when the final day of Central Region's youth 47th Battalion resumes.

In the high-quality rugby league display, four new teams enter the finals spotlight with Rockhampton and South Burnett set to battle it out the Under 18 title; while Toowoomba will hope to share in their Senior Men's 47th Battalion success when they face the relentless Bundaberg Under 20 side.

In the second year of the new format, there were some mixed results from the talented regional youngsters, including a few surprise triumphs.

Central Highlands knocked over last year's Under 18 grand finalists Roma with a dominant 44-20 win, whilst Rockhampton also upset the defending champions Toowoomba with a narrow 10-6 victory to secure their ticket in the big dance.

In the Under 20 division, the two sides that meet in the last game today certainly made their mark yesterday, making for an enthralling match-up this afternoon.

Toowoomba were tested early by Central Highlands before making light work of South Burnett; but Bundaberg have not conceded a point yet, shutting out both Roma and District and Rockhampton by big margins.

Today's action kicks off at 9am at the Murgon Showgrounds.
